History

As the world’s largest and longest-running specialty vehicle manufacturer, it’s no surprise that a number of legendary names can be found in Accubuilt. Since 1876, Accubuilt’s impressive history has been a product of innovative design and engineering with roots as far back as the leading maker of fine horse-drawn carriages. Simply put, we’ve withstood the test of time because our companies are not bound by limits. Our renowned heritage and market versatility make our footprint the largest and most respected in the specialty vehicle industry. Continuous Excellence Since 1876

Founded in 1923 Superior Motor Coach Body Company, Accubuilt is the world’s leading specialty vehicle manufacturer. In 1981 we merged with our largest competitor, The S&S Coach Company and consolidated all operations in one facility. The S&S Coach Company has been in continuous operation since 1876 and we proudly maintain the standards of excellence that have allowed
our oldest division to prosper for 130 years. Those standards include top quality products and comprehensive customer service.

Along the way, our company has deservedly earned a reputation for innovation. Superior pioneered the all steel school bus body in 1931 and, although many improvements have been made to the interior, the basic Superior body shell design is unchanged after decades of use. If you’re familiar with the Ghost Busters movies, they feature Superior built Cadillac ambulances that represent the ultimate in sedan-based models that were in vogue prior to government standards that required truck chassis for ambulance use.

Accubuilt has also produced a wide variety of other specialty vehicles including convertibles, Class 8 truck tractors, 6-door SUVs and highly unique limousines for royalty around the world, to name a few.

The one constant throughout the years is a talented and dedicated work force imbued with solid, Midwestern values that produces high quality vehicles. We have many third generation employees and the fourth generation of some families is employed with us at our flagship, Lima, Ohio location. This 185,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility is also the exclusive production plant for the W.P. Chrysler Executive Series 300. These sleek, longer wheelbase Chrysler 300 models are assembled on a recently added, tightly controlled, separate production line. Highly trained personnel, equipped with precision tools and equipment ensure that the W. P. Chrysler Executive Series units are produced to meet the exacting quality standards of both DaimlerChrysler Corporation and Accubuilt, Inc.

Accubuilt’s Lima facility also features high-tech equipment such as CNC controlled routers, high tonnage stamping presses and laser cutters, one of which is robotically controlled. For years, we have produced special lengthened sedans for very high ranking government officials and business leaders. Our Lima plant is also home to over 70% of the funeral coaches and six-door limousines manufactured in North America and we export many around the world including to Japan, a country very well known for its rigorous, automotive quality requirements. Accubuilt is the leading manufacturer of Cadillac professional vehicles, producing over 70% of all Cadillac funeral coaches. We also produce the finest Lincoln professional vehicles available. Combined, our Cadillac and Lincoln funeral coaches and funeral limousines command over 70% market share in North America. With our oldest competitor dating only to the mid-1980s, Accubuilt has built vastly more units than all of our competitors combined. There are numerous Accubuilt manufactured funeral vehicles still in operation that were produced prior to any current competitor even being in business! Funeral vehicles actually represent one of the most challenging specialty vehicles to manufacture since we start with a domestic, sedan body and must completely alter it for its very special purpose while attaining the exacting quality standards of the world’s most demanding customers. We are proud that we make the finest such vehicles available. In addition to the above noted S&S Coach Company brand, other familiar specialty vehicle brand names manufactured by Accubuilt are Superior Coaches and Eureka Coach.

Accubuilt’s Limousine Division operates a separate facility in Springfield, Missouri where we manufacture large, luxury limousines, which feature wheelbase extensions of up to 130” and a myriad of special options, under the DaBryan, S&S Coach and Superior Coaches brand names. DaBryan brand limousines are manufactured in a wide range of models that satisfy the demands of such diverse customers as private owners, corporate executives, luxury hotels, casinos and livery operators who cater to wedding and prom clientele. Accubuilt’s Limousine Division is one of the largest producers of Lincoln luxury limousines and is widely regarded as the highest quality producer of such vehicles.

Accubuilt is a leading builder of shuttle and mobility, wheelchair-capable vans under the Accubuilt and Tuscany brand names.

We produce them for both commercial and personal use at our Truck & Van Division located in Elkhart, Indiana. The Elkhart facility also produces the highly regarded Tuscany brand of custom pickups and personal use vans.

Accubuilt also produces the largest-payload, most heavy duty, full function pickups. Working closely with the Ford Motor Company, we purchase the individual component parts of an F-350 pickup box. The F-350 is the largest capacity pickup totally manufactured by Ford. Using our lasers and metal stamping presses, we re-configure the F-350 parts into a pickup box that fits Ford’s F-450 and F-550 cab and chassis models. Along the way we add heavy gauge steel bed supports that strengthen the box to handle the higher payload and towing capacities of the F-450 and F-550. The Ford warranty is in full effect on these super tough trucks and they are sold only through authorized Ford truck dealers. A properly equipped, Accubuilt manufactured, Ford F-550 pickup can tow up to 24,900 pounds. Accubuilt is the world’s oldest and largest specialty vehicle manufacturer. All of our vehicles meet or exceed all applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) and are only produced under the auspices of the respective OEM chassis manufacturer. That assures our customers that all, applicable OEM chassis warranties are in full and complete effect and that the vehicles can be serviced at any OEM dealership.

Accubuilt warrants our added work under the exact same terms and conditions as the basic OEM warranties.

Accubuilt is a well experienced, well financed enterprise that takes pride in its history, its dedicated work force and its quality products. When you purchase an Accubuilt manufactured vehicle you can do so with confidence that you have selected a quality built product from a quality company that will provide you exemplary service.
